Reflections on a New Year

I know I'm more than a little late with a New Year's post but I thought I really needed to get around to doing it so here I am.

The 00's were a growth decade for me as I transitioned from my late teens into almost, gulp, 30. When the clock struck midnight on 01/01/2000 I was a depressed boy playing Starcraft online. The Y2K fear dwindling through the day as very small random outages were reported across the globe as each area celebrated the new year. My job at the time was a security guard for the Bon-Ton warehouse located in Whitehall, PA. My credit was in shambles, my bank account was broke, and I was living at home. Well living is a strong word, more like staying there.

Anyway, during the decade. I ended up going to school at UPITT-Titusville, and then East Stroudsburg. Moving down to Lubbock, TX with my best friend so I could go to Texas Tech for radio broadcasting. Stuff happened and TTU never happened so I moved back north and started dating a girl from Connecticut, and Ive been here ever since. Got an apartment with said girl in 08/2004. Moved to a condo in 05/2005, and finally bought a house in 08.

As for gambling.... Prior to 2003 I have never stepped inside a casino, well ok thats not accurate... when I was 18 I went with my friend to Atlantic City because he convinced me we could gamble at 18 in AC. He said it was just Vegas that was 21...oh how gullible I was back then. We walked through the Taj, saw the restriction sign and headed off to the Hard Rock to eat. And that was the extent of my casinoage until Liss took me to Mohegan in 2003. I was hooked. Eventually I started playing cards right before the big poker boom with a real day-dream of one day making it out to Vegas to compete. Then 2009 happened.

Everyone who reads this blog knows my 2009 story so I wont rehash it, but as I sit here I can't believe where I have arrived from where I have been just 10 years ago. I've accomplished more than I thought I would, although to be fair when I was 19 I thought I'd be the next Adam Sandler...yeah that got sidetracked... but in reflection I'm very proud of where I am and I can only hope the next 10 years is as exciting and adventurous as the last 10.

As for the gambling-side I’ve been failing miserably. I’ve been to the casino 4 times in the new year and each time I was too preoccupied with playing table games than to make the quick trip to the poker room and I think that stems from the fact that I think I’ve figured out that I do have a real anxiety over playing real poker again in a casino. The why is simple, and like I mentioned above has been stated many times, but how I get over this I guess can only be solved by getting in there and playing. Mohegan is have an event on a traveling Poker Stars tour that starts at the end of March and concludes with the Main Event starting April 7th.

So we will see, I definitely more comfortable playing tournaments versus playing cash games.

P.S.: Been playing Forza 3 for xbox 360, fun game and allows you to customize cars. I'd like to present to you my customized car
