Scotty either has the Spirit, in him or "spirits" in him

Razz, Prop Bet Win, and new TV

The subject pretty much sums up my weekend. Laid around doing squat all weekend was nice, I feel very relaxed today (could also be because its a short work week).

Played some .50/1 Razz while watching "The Lost World". Was down $10 bucks early to some redonkulous players. A234 in the first 4 only to grab a 9, 2 Js and a K. It was pretty bad for awhile, but those lovely fishies that call with 8, 9 even 10s are gold. Ended up the 3 hour session $7 bucks, but it was hard fought and well earned. Hand of the night was when I got dealt A-3-5 and some dude with a 9 showing is re-raising 3rd. His next board was an 8, then he caught a J and and a 10. Re-raising the whole way. I thought I would be the recipient of all this action when I caught a deuce on 4th, A-2-3-5 but I bricked out and the 8 to my left took it down. A $25 pot. What did the donk show down? Trip 8s and an OESD to the Q....lol Aint stud dipsmit!

The lovely wonderful gf of mine continued to furnish our new house on Sat and Sun, getting some great deals on dishes and all that other stuff we need. Hands down the best thing we bought, was yesterday she got a Samsung 52" LCD 120 MHZ TV for a steal price of $2245 instead of the normal $3100. SA-WEET.

And of course the most important thing happened early Sun morning as Ivey was eliminated from the 50k HORSE and Greenstein still in, sealed my $10 victory over Unimpressed in our prop bet. Grats to Scotty for taken that mutha down.

Thats about it, I forsee a lot more Razz in my future, and a Mookie, but thats pretty much it. Civilization Revolutions comes out next Tuesday and I'm pretty stoked for that, Phillies have something like a 9 game losing streak since Cole said the PHI vs BOS matchup was a WS preview (lesson learned, shut ya face even if we know it to be true!)

Drunken Rock Band and not much else

No poker last night, worked till 8 then went to the gf's cuz's graduation party. Got a little tipsy, came home and finished it off.

"..and there was much rock-banding, and guitar hero-ing, and breakfast cereals...."

So yeah. No headache, but the head is definately in a fog, which means most likely no F-woods tonight.

Phillies got swept again by the A's, jump on the fire Charlie bandwagon now while its still early!

Hope everyone has a good and profitable weekend.

PS. Greenstein is second in chips atm in the HORSE, which means im in the lead. Actually i still have Greenstein and Bloch left, Joe is down to Ivey.

Razz Tilt & Shawn Chacon does something every Philly fan wanted to do

So last night was the MSOP #45, Razz, event. I started off playing some .50/1 razz to get me in the right frame of mind and I ended up dropping 15 bucks. No biggy.
The event starts and Im doing awesome. I employed the simple strategy of "bet when im ahead, fold when im behind" simple enough. By the break in the first hour i was up to 13th out of 529 with 5300 chips (starting was 3k). Then IT happened. I usually leave chat off in these tourneys because you always get the wise-guys or the whiners typing junk in there, well i left it on and had one guy ribbin me through the tourney after i sucked out a 4 on his 8-6 for a wheel. Nothing big just the standard olololol.

The hand in particular I have [A-3]-7 showing, guy to my right completes with a 6 showing, i call. I brick a Q on 4th, and he nets a 3. He bets and I decide to call thinking he may have paired 1 of those cards. Next card I pick up a 9, he picks up a K. In keeping with my strategy, of bet when ahead, I throw out a bet out there. He goes into the tank, and starts saying in the chat: "You are either really good at this game or you have no idea how to play. The only way you could bet there is if you know I paired my 6" The lol guy, says im an idiot and they both discuss hwo ill make the final table with my crappy play. Chat off, but the damage was done. I brought up razz guides as the tourney is going on to figure out how to improve my play. Pretty much Razz is a game that "is what it is", If i have 3 cards 8 or lower i should at least call to 4th when theres no heavy betting action, if i have 3 less than 5 raise and re-raise. Pretty much I was doing this already.
Back to the tourney, I went card dead and semi-tilt. Folding a lot, bringing-in A LOT. I estimate i lost at least 1/4 my stack from just bring-ins alone.

By the time i got a playable hand, A-6-4 no less, I had 2k chips and it folded to me with the bring-in on my left. I completed figuring i was just going to pick up the bring-in and antes since he is showing a J and im showing my 4. Nope. He raises. I guess he thought I was stealing, so i popped him back and he capped. He graps a 9, and I grab an 8. I bet, he raises, he re, i cap and hes all-in. I have 1k behind. Well wouldnt you know along with his J-9 he has 2-5 under. Lets just say thanks to 2 pair and and a K i did not win this hand. So I have 1k and im really on tilt now. 2 hands later im the bring-in for the elventy billionth time and i Have a K showing with A-4 under. 2 to my right guy with a 5 completes. I do my best aw-fukkit like the bring-in did to me and I get it all in. He bricks 4th and 5th, while I make an 8 by 6th, the A he grabs on 7th sends me to the rail.

So what more intelligent thing to do then when your tilting join a 26 buck HORSE tourney. So thats what I did and I got my ass handed to me.

Bankroll down to $104. A few beers and a few missions of Ace Combat logged, I wander off into slumber.

On the way to work this morning, I hear about this from ESPN radio:

Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon was suspended indefinitely by the team Wednesday for insubordination after reportedly grabbing general manager Ed Wade by the neck and throwing him to the ground.

The thing I wonder is why Placido Polanco or Scott Rolen do this while he was still the Phillies GM. Best quote from ESPN's chat board: "Everyone in Philadelphia is now a Shawn Chacon fan."

Indeed. My horses are still running goot in the HORSE, after some bad info from pokernews and even ToP himself, Joe's stud Patrick Antonius IS running in the event.

50k HORSE prop bet & Phuckin Phillies

Unimpressed challenged me to a last longer in the 50k HORSE event. Choose 3 people, flipped for first pick.

Heres something ironic, I picked tails based on the poker movie "All-in", if you havent seen it im sorry but you will have to sit through the entire thing on your own...

So I won and i picked Greenstein. He got the next 2 with Ivey and Antonius. I followed up with Bloch and a questionable choice with Deeb. He took David Singer.

THe bet is only $10, but its good to win as many of these things as I can.

Still taking last-longer bets for the Main Event.

MSOP #45 tonight, also Mook. I guess Mook is the fallback if I crap out of the razz MSOP early.

Whats up with the Phillies, seriously? Since the clobbering of the Sox 9-2 last Monday they have dropped 6 straight games. They had a nice comfortbale lead in the NL East and now....

2008 National League - Standings
EAST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD RS RA DIFF STRK L10
Philadelphia 42 36 .538 - 22-18 20-18 400 324 +76 Lost 6 2-8
Florida 40 36 .526 1 22-16 18-20 372 372 Lost 2 4-6
NY Mets 37 39 .487 4 20-16 17-23 350 358 -8 Lost 2 5-5
Atlanta 38 41 .481 4.5 27-14 11-27 361 322 +39 Lost 2 4-6
Washington 30 49 .380 12.5 15-25 15-24 287 397 -110 Lost 4 3-7

At least everyone else in the East sucks, but we're screwed if ATL or NYM go on a hot streak. I think the Marlins will crumble, as they always do. Amazing that the Phils lost 6, and still are 6 over .500, as any Phils fan can attest this is an exciting feat to see pre-all-star game.

Speaking of Razz...

Just found this: KORS, this may be the big tourney the razz folks were talking about last night.

My interest is piqued.

And all that Razz

So after crapping out of 2 NL SnGs, I decided to play a 5.50 Horse tourney. Omaha in these types of low limit tourneys is like a minefield. Case in point I cap the raising between 3 people when I hit top set on an uncoordinated, undouble sooted board. I end up losing to a lower set on the flop turned and rivered into a straight.

So im barely surviving in that tourney when I see a razz sat to the MSOP event. Long story short, I won a seat into the razz MSOP on Wednesday and eventually bounced from the horse tourney after i made an awesome comeback to lead the field after bein the gigli for a while.

Also ended up playing 1/2 razz ring game, won all the money i lost in tourneys back and padded the bankroll a smidgeon. Up to 145 now. The train keeps a rollin...

Weird Night at Foxwoods

Holy crap people, I swear tonight was Friday the 13th, not last week. Someone tell me if its a full moon, the weirdest shit I have ever seen at F-WOODS poker room.

First thing I did was sign up for a $120 SnG. No biggy right?

#1: 6 or 7 of the people at the table knew each and came from Boston together.

#2: About 2 mins after they called the SnG, 8 of us are sitting down, and the dealer asks the table "so should I deal?" Usually the dealer sets the timer to 5 minutes to give people enough time to arrive for the game.

#3: I suggest to the dealer, since she seems to be itching to do something, to high card for the button. She does this, then IMMEDIATELY proceeds to deal the tourney, 5 mins be damned!

#4: The table is horribly weak, i am the only person who DOESNT min-raise when they bet.

#5: 2 of the friendly guys are involved in a pot, the super drunk one on my left, and the super aggressive one on my right. Drunk raises, folds to aggressive. He goes in the tank. While hes thinking, drunk flips over one of his cards, a 9 of hearts. The dealer looks at me and says "i dont think he can do that", I have no friggin clue what the rule is. So he turns the face up 9h face down, then turns his other card up, 9d. The dealer really gets confused at this and calls the floor. Floor decides his hand is not dead but after the hand he must take a 7 hand penalty (7 people left in the SnG). When the heck have you ever seen a penalty in a 10 person SnG? I havent. The hand result, the aggro guy called the pre-flop raise, but folded on a small flop.

Thats just the first table folks...

So after I bust out from going card dead, I join another SnG.

This one isnt much better, as there is a guy in seat 9 who has no idea what hes doing. Example: He is reapeatidly told what the chip values are, but he still can not understand the concept, so he writes the values down on the back of tourney slip....
Also have what I will call a cross-eyed albino Yankees fan in seat 4 who let everyone know that "I PLAY POKER ONLINE!" and although its only his second online tourney, he plays online pretty frequently. You can guess what kind of player he is.

I basically won one hand against "whats the value?" and then i couldnt win any races again. CEAYF goes all in for 800 when blinds are 50/100, fold to me I have A-Khh, and re-raise to isolate. He flips over 6s, neither of us improve, he wins. He says "I HAD 6s YOU HAVE TO GO ALL-IN THERE."
Similar situation for me like the first tourney. I have 10-9hh, raise all-in for like 725, BB says "ill donate", that auto means im beat...J-7, flops a 7 and im done.

So, the SnGs are done for the night, i take the rest of my BR to the 1/2 nl. I post in and get dealt K-3o. No raises. I flop K-3. UTG bets 10, i call. Everyone else folds. Turn is a 9. UTG bets POT. Pot is over 100 now and I have a little over 100 left, I push, he calls. River is K. I show Kings full, he shows K-6o. Not bad double up first hand.

The next hand I'd like some thought on what this lady had:

Seat 10 is a lady who recently sat down and has over-raised each hand shes been in for 5 straight hands. When I say over-raise, her initial raise has been between 20-26 bucks each time shes raised. Some more info about this chick: UTG straddled to 4, she was UTG+1 and called 2. When informed there was a straddle, she took her bet back and raised to 22. After calling the floor she had to limp in. She ended up showing down Q-8cc. She also had raised with 10-5o in EP and filled a boat on the river. She is obviously drunk or strung out.

Heres my hand:

I am in EP and pick up A-Qdd. I limp knowing that this crazy lady will raise. It folds to her and she raises to $24. I call.

Flop Kd-Jd-Xx

I check. She checks.

Turn: 9s

I bet out 50, she re-raises to 120. Not unusual as this is the 2nd time she raised to that exact amount. Realistically she could have anything, but because she was SO aggressive and she checked the flop I figured she had A-J or something like that. If that’s true I have 9 diamonds, 3 kings, 3 tens as outs.

So I re-raise all-in for something like 200. Its costing her $70+ to call a pot of $350. Im doing all my best Caro impressions, leaning back in my chair, blinking twice, looking at the cards etc etc. Apparently I went ahead and messed with her head pretty good. She was mumbling about a Q being no good, and she was concerned because I had raised all-in immediately after she had said raise. She thought for a good 3-5 minutes, and laid it down. Knowing that she would slow down a little bit now, I flipped up the A-Q. And she said "now I know".

So later on she switched seats to 2 to my left and was discussing a hand with the guy to my right about a call he made against her. She won a hand with A-A and says, "its good to see my A-A win especially since the last time I had them (stares at me) I lost."

So she disappears for a bit and I'm chatting up the guy to my right who is a decent player (although he doubled me up my first hand I sat down) and I say "you really think she had A-A?" He says, I highly doubt it, but she should have called ATC with that pot. He also thinks shes not totally with it…

The last hand I was there the guy called her all the way to the river with A-7o and landed an A on the river to take a huge pot. She wouldn’t stop talking to him about calling that, until he finally says, "You raise to 25 with 10-5 offsuit, what the heck do you expect me to do?"

Poker Learning Frustration

First off, thanks to LJ and Heff for the comments, I do value every teeny bIt of advice/opinions that are given to me.

Second I think Heff hit on something pretty blatant with my poker game, "everything looks completely standard" , and that ladies and gentlemen is why my poker game is not progressing to the upper levels of some of the other bloggers.

At first I was just too "scared" to raise unless I had something, then I thought slowplaying every good hand was a great way to net big pots, and now I'm at a point where I like "consistancy" in my game but as Heff put it, its all just standard play. Nothing tricky, nothing smart, just normal old play.

I find myself more often than not, making a play (or not making one) based on "will this make me look like a donk?" I can honestly say thats why I folded the K-Qo hand in the mook Wed night, if I called X's all-inner with just K-Qo Id look like an idiot... even though it was a pretty brutal decision that led me to pushing all-in with J-10o into K-K eventually anyway.

I think I need some honest to goodness spring training for poker, since im not going on vacation this year I was going to save some vacation days to enter a handful of Foxwood's WPT Final events, but if I can't get my play up well enough for the better bloggers, how can I expect to face pros?

Last night again for example, I did a 6.50 turbo SnG. I raised with 5-5 from EP, got 2 callers. When the flop came K high, no double soots, I pushed. (I had like 600 left and the pot was 550ish) I get called by As-8s because he had hit the 8 on the flop. FT smiles upon me and puts a 5 on the turn. When it got 3 handed FT smiled upon me again and saved me with a river straight to beat K-K. I ended up taking down the whole thing and pushed the bankroll back up to $122. But these wins are hollow for me, I'm not satisfied by winning just because this week FT is giving me the cards. I accepted my 6th place Mook finish because I felt I HAD played well minus the A-A suckout, but really I'm just standard.

Don't let my glumness bring you down, have a good weekend everyone, maybe I'll get to Foxwoods, maybe I'll just play online.

Final Table!

Raised with K-Qo, 1/3rd my stack, closer shoves. Shoulda just called, but i folded.

Final hand was J-10 UTG, folds around to tragedy in the bb, i figured he'd have A-A, no, just K-K but was goot enough I lose.

6th place for $35 bucks though, not too bad a haul.

Slowly but surely, building the bankroll back up

I have made a commitment to myself to slowly build my bankroll back up. After being drained by cash games in May, I threw $50 in and I'm starting off with $5.50 SnGs on FT. The progress so far is fairly good, after a few non-cashes the roll slipped down to around $30ish, I won 2, and finished 2nd in another. Bankroll stands at $71 currently and I will strive to play at least 1 $5.50 SnG everyday until the roll is up to around $200. At 200 I will switch over to $10 SnGs and build back up that way.

I'd like to say I've been playing better, but I don't feel like I have, still relying a little too much on luck and not thinking things though enough. Here are some hands from the SnG last night.

First hand, button. A-Ko. 3 limps, so I put in a big raise of 5x the BB. 2 callers, naturally.

Flop comes 10 high, with 2 clubs. Checks to me, and I stick out a half pot bet. EP folds, guy to my left min-raises. At this point my thinking is giving him way too much credit on the hands he could be min raising me with. I'm thinking maybe hes semi-bluffing with 4 to a flush or something so I just call.
Turn comes a 4s. I decide to push since I think I can get him to fold a non-scary turn. Well he thinks for a smidgeon then calls with Q-10 off. Fortunately for me, an A rivers me a better hand.

I seem to have trouble determining in low limits what players will raise with. He obviously thought Q-10o was the nuts on the flop even though I put in a big raise and half potted the flop. It seems like I can be a sounder player at low limit SnGs if I just play basic non-bluffing poker, i mean he was willing to throw chips in there with just TPSK, so I would have been golden with J-J through A-A. This strategy comes in to play in the rest of my hands.

After this hand I raised only my good hands, and folded to big bets from the rest of the calling stations.

Second hand I played, about 5 after the first, I had A-A. Raise 4x BB since Im pretty sure I'll pick up 1 or 2 callers, just 1 limps this time.
Flop is some non-scary J high flop. I bet half pot again and limper quickly calls.
Turn is an A. I decide to trap this guy and hope he has some kind of hand he wants to bluff me off with, so I check. Luckily this guy bets 1k, leaving 300 behind. So I put him all-in. He turns up A-J, and I show my set. 6K chips, 2 people gone and its just the first level.

The rest of the field was donktastic, the two people directly to my left were uber-calling stations. They called ANYTHING with ANYTHING. 5X raise? Call. So I played very conservatively. Raised with pairs and A-K, A-Q in position, folded everything else not in position.

A curious hand arose when I had K-K. I put in the standard 4x bet, UCS calls flat. Flop is a kinda scary J,9,8 with 2 clubs. I check. UCS Checks behind. Turn brings another 8. I check again, UCS bets half pot, I call. River is an A. I check, he pushes all-in. Now if this were a good player I would have re-raised the turn, but having this guy show absolutely no-agression what-so-ever and him showing down some pretty crappy hands I figure he couldnt have slow-played Q-10, he would have raised the flop. A more likely holding is J-8 or A-8, i lean towards A-8 due to the all-in bet on the river which was more than the pot by a sizeable margin. So I folded K-K.

Eventually it got down to 3 handed after 1 UCS took out the other UCS. The other person in at least had a clue about playing agressive, because he would attempt to steal my BB more than the UCS's BB. I re-raised him back one time when I had A-7o and that put an end to his steals for a little.

UCS lost about half his chips to me when I got him to call a top pair, non scary flop for me, then put him all-in on the turn. He folded, being crippled.

Heads up, me and the semi-aggressive guy went toe to toe. I raised a bunch and he folded. When he raised every now and then and I had crap, I folded.

The penultimate hand, I had J-5hh and raised. He raised all-in for like 3k, so I called. And he showed A-9hh. 5 on the flop wins it for me.

So lucky on the first hand, lucky on the last. Better playing by me in-between. If I could just read people a little better Id be on my way.

Watched the Celts win, and the Phillies lose. Hopefully Phillies win it tonight.

Baseball, Work, Video games

A non-poker night for me last night. The gf was using my laptop for other non-important purposes so I settled in for a spot of reading, playing some video games on the 360 and of course Phillies vs Sox!

The gf and her fam are yanks fans, so I watch my fair share of yanks (this is ok since I have Jeter on both my fantasy teams, we both have something to root for), but since 2004 Sox fans have been downright annoying. At first it was the pissing and moaning at Foxwoods about how they never win (2003-2004) then it was "the curse is over (2005-2007) then this year its been non-stop sox sox sox. And then on top of it, they have the Pats, and even better now they have the Celts on the verge of winning it all.

Needless to say, I am tired of Boston sports fans in general. So anytime time I get some ammo i can use to rib the enitre CT/MA area fans, I use it to death. So 8-2, has been my rallying cry all morning at work.
"Hey Josh, you catch that sox game last night? What was the final score? 13-1?"(always embellish with an incorrect score, cause you KNOW they will correct you)
"No, no it was 8-2."
"Oh!I see Ryan Howard had an ok night last night."
"Yeah 2 HRs, and a triple."
"Don't forget the 4 RBIs."

So of course the only comeback for the barrage I have unleashed is "Oh yeah? Well the Pats are gonna kill the Chiefs week 1!" (KC @ NE)

Silly Sox fans, one loss and you think about football season.

Looks like Unimpressed is getting back into poker a little bit, maybe I can get him down to f-woods one of these days again.

Ante Up Home Game

Friday night was a special home poker game at JLBSox's house as co-host of the Ante Up podcast, Chris Cosensa(sp?) and a few of the other podcast listeners were at this game.

The tourney was a $50 buy-in 30k deep deep stack tourney. Tough field, minus the 3 usuals, they were as fishy as usual.

My SB vs BB, I have 3-3 and raise 3 1/2 the BB. BB calls. Flop is A-A-A. I figure Im good here since it is unlikely he has an A, or a pair, but i also know this guy really well. He will call with crap the whole way. I bet 3/4ths pot, he calls. Turn is a Q. I lead out again for 3/4ths. Call. River is a 4. I throw one last ditch bet to get him out of the friggin hand... call. He flips up J-4 for a river boat... He then tells everyone he was chasing a flush... COMO SAY WTF? Yes the J-4 were sooooooted and the tuen gave him a flush draw.

Other than that the first 2 hours of thr tourney were quiet, one bustout out of 11. Then the hand I get elimated on... Now I know I played this horribly, but if anyone has any constructive advice what to do in this situation I'd love to hear it (plus any AK, AQ play as well as i seem to struggle with those hands when i miss the flop)

Im on the button, 10 people left 150/300 with a 50 ante, i have about 35k-40k chips.

Folds to MP who raises to 1200.

I look down to see J-J, i throw in the 1200.

BB raises to 3200. OR calls, I c'all. Pot is over 10k.

Flop 8-Q-8 2 hearts. BB bets out half the pot. OR calls, I re-raise to 24k (leaving about 10k behind) My gut says A-K on this one so I want to put him at a decision to fold or race. BB goes all in, OR folds. Now I can fold an have 10k behind, or I can go with my gut that says he is pushing my A-K thinking he can get me off my hand since I showed no pre-flop aggression. I think for a while, then I call saying "i think im running into a set here"

He has A-Khh, 15 outs.. I dodge the turn, but the 2h on the river closes the deal.

So I got my money while ahead, but behind in the %s, so I ask what is the best play in that situation?

Note to self never play double flop for cash, or the catch the wave omaha game..not worth it.

Condo is offically sold, no more going back to that place, but still i seem to be in a funk lately. I think poker has something to do with it as I feel like I am just not grasping common concepts that at this point I should know front back and sideways... Im readin the essential poker attitudes book, and it turns out a lot i do emotionally is screwing me out of money.

I think the concept that hit home hard with me is: Just because you are winning money, doesnt mean you are playing well. Just because you are losing money, doesn't mean you are playing poorly.

I know I have gotten lucky in the past, but how much of my past successes have been luck, and how much has been earned?

Poker Website

First I offer a plug for my buddy Tyler, and his website that is extremely sweet:

RoundersBuzz.com. It is a social news site for poker strategy and poker news. If you want to improve your poker game, you can quickly find the most popular poker strategy articles that the community have voted up to the main page.

If you focus on tournaments, there is a Tournament Strategy category. They also have categories on General Poker, Ring Game Strategy, Online Poker Tools and Poker News.

So stop by and check it on out, hes a nice guy and it seems like a sweet site.

Boy do I live in a bubble...

You know as my tepid little existence is meandering on with assisnine poker crap, i mean lets be real, im not the most detailed blogger in the world, nor am i close to being better than average at poker, but yet I type my crap on here like in the grand scheme of things its entertaining to read my stuff.

And thats the rub, there is real poker drama out there, and there are bloggers who can remember how exactly their hands played out and the situation and what they did etc etc.

I think I clinged to the BBT crowd because I was looking for kinship amongst poker playing peers. Other than Unimpressed (who I play with semi-regularly) I dont have any friends who are IN TO poker.

So thanks to everyone who stops by to catch my little corner of crap, and feel free to offer me any poker advice or whatever to make me a better player. I never refuse advice, even if I don't readily believe in it.

Poker Breaks and what to do about my MTT funk

Man seems like most of the people I read blogs from are taking breaks from poker (or like Waffles, taking a new one every day!!) seems like the BBT burnt a lot of people out, especially the winners. I kinda miss not having a tourney to play every night, although I have been sleeping more, so I'll call that a push. Maybe its fate that I donked my bankroll off toward the end of the BBT, cause if it was still going I'd be driving all over CT to find some more reload cards... Well to all of you who are taking a break, good luck and see you back soon hopefully.

Man MTTs are kicking my ass, it use to be i would either donk out in first 10, or make the money. Now I am bubbling everything. Gotta re-read Harrington's second book and figure out what I could be doing better.

House is coming along, everything should be all settled after a week of hell.

The irony of Q-4 offsuit and poker musings

First off, Pauly, no need to thank me man, thank you for the awesome behind the scenes reporting that you do for us on a daily basis.

Online has been nil, 2nd and 3rd-ed a 5.50 SnG on FT, lost a SnG on PS when I ran a set of presto into 9-8ss and As-Jh. Naturaly 4 spades and no pairs on the board.

Hit off F-woods Sunday for the 10am $120 tourney. First live MTT for me since a 2006 Act 3. So I register late (10 minutes) and only one set of blinds have passed.

I ended up playing retarded to start off. Combination of nerves and mis-reading the table. First hand I had 10-10, in the cutoff. Blinds are 50/100, MP raises to 200, and I re-raise to 600. MP calls. I put him on A-K, A-Q, Q-Q, or J-J. Flop is an awesome K-Q-x double sooted. MP bets out. I fold.

Another time Im the big blind and it checks to me, I figure its just me and the SB so I bet out with my 4-9 when I see a 9 on the flop, but i guess i didnt see the MP who just called, so he raises me naturally...

Anyway it goes on like this until Im down to about 2500, half the starting stack, and I pick up A-Qo. I raise to 800 (blinds are 150/300) and short stack goes all in for 2200. I figure he either has an underpair, and its a coin flip or he has A-K.

So I call... I really should re-name this blog "So I Call", and he flips up Q-10hh. Wow I friggin big favorite. Q on the flop, and I avoid a 10. I double up to a little over starting chip stick. Basically thats it. I raised all-in when I got down low enough, picked up blinds and antes and hung around until 25th place.

I have approx 7800 left, blinds are 1000/2000 and 200 antes. I just became the BB, so 2k down. UTG+2 raises all in for 8850. folds around to me where i could almost feel a pocket pair in there. 8-8. call. What does UTG+2 flip up? None other than Q-4o. I stood up knowing the flop would have a....Q. Tourney over.

So 5 from the money in my first live MTT, disappointing but not bad.

I also ended up buying "The Professor, The Banker, and The Suicide King", excellent book with an amazing look into the lives of professional poker players.

The irony is that Beal, The Banker, summated that there are 5 hands that win at least 50% of the time, and 1 of them...you guess it, is Q-4o!! Wish i woulda read the book BEFORE the toruney.

Im off for the next 3 days, but I hope everyone is doing well!

Down Again (bad beats contained within)

I can just not get ahead on online poker. I played some SnG on PS and got bounced by 4 or less outs 3 times... My A-Qo vs Q-Q, got it all in on the flop with an A, turn was the case Q, my 8-8 vs 4-4 in pre-flop River was a 4. AKdd vs J-J, J on the flop A on the river...

Then in stud I boat on 6th street 3s full of 2s and this dumb idiot of a person calls with 7s, hits A-A on 5th and 6th, then gets a 7 on the river. I noted to her that she was drawing to 2 outs. Then her and some idiot who was calling with a flush draw say she had 4. Except flush draw idiot must have forget he had a 3rd visible A, ok i was wrong maybe 3 outs.

The best donkey excuse I have ever heard occured last night. Its fixed limit sng.

In EP I raise with A-Q. 1 caller, SB. Flop is 7-6-2. I bet, he calls. Turn: K Bet, call. River: 10 Bet, call.

Now I fully admit I was stupid to continue to bet into someone in limit, so thats my mistake, but I just figure he didnt hit the flop hard and he might fold.
So I show my A-Q, he shows......3-2!

Pokerbrian22: Wow, really? 3-2?
Donkey: You had nothing.
Donkey: You couldn't even beat 2s, you were betting with nothing!
Pokerbrian22: lol 2s

So yeah, it didnt get any better from there, i kept calling him with lol2s all night, then I got beat by the 4s vs my 8s. He said bye, and I said gl lol2s.

But that sums up my night, im thinking of planning a trip to F-woods on my day off either on tuesday or wednesday to take part in either $180 NL tourneys on those days. I feel like im playing well and recognizing good steal situations, but im just not winning the coin flips (or the dominant hands)its gotta turn around online soon I would hope, and hopefully my winning way continue in the live games.

Have a great weekend everyone and if you are in the NE area maybe catch you at f-woods one of these days.

Missed the Mookie, but made some money

Yeah, the first Mookie ive missed in quite awhile... The deal is I have 58 bucks on FT, stopped in a .25/.50 nl game to see if I can make a quick score but 1) Wasn't getting any cards 2)Scared crapless of FT right now, I can't play my game the way I want to.

So I hopped on over to PS. I found a 180 person 4.40 MTT ready to go so signed up. I ended up pulling a M@TH manuever as I took a 10k chip lead over the 2nd place guy with about 40 to go, and by the time we got to the final table I was in 8th. Two bad calls by contributed to this. (I called with A-Qo vs K-K and I ran 6-6 into a short stack's A-A) So I finished in 7th for a score of $25. Its a start.

Then I lost 2 bucks at 1/2 Stud before I decided to do a SnG. Found a $16 turbo, which I ended up doing very well in. It got heads up and I was a massive chipleader, where I got bad beated twice: A-6 vs his 6-9, 9 on river, then J-J vs 8-4 flop was Q-10-9, turn: J.

Down 5 to 1 in Chips I had an awesome comeback to win the whole darn thing for a haul of $67.50!!! Up to over $150 on PS from $50. First time I felt I was just playing good poker in a long while, online anyways. Man today feels like Friday...I wish it was.

House problems: The house we agreed to buy has a Radon and debatable ermite problem. I say debatable ebcause our bug guy found the "start" of termintes, carpenter ants, and carpenter bees but no actual insects. The homeowners also broguht in a respectable bug guy and he said they didnt have nothing...wtf? Also the radon test came back as 3.9 picocuries (4.0 being a failure) but initially they didnt want to do anything because it passed...All we asked for is to have the 4 hairline cracks in the foundation sealed professionally to prevent the retun of insects and to prevent some more radon from seeping in, but the homeowners seem to be balking at these requests. Luckily our house is sold and we can stay with Alissa's parents as long as we want so we can always back out of this deal....but man the house is gorgeous otherwise... Solid construction (2 by 6s, anderson windows, american standard Central Air with 2 zones) but its not worth getting lung cancer over.

WSOP dream and online poker

So apparently in stunning similarity to JG, I had a WSOP ME dream last night. It was pretty vivid, so I remember pretty much all of the details. In what has become indicative of how my dreams go or how I feel overall about myself, this is how my dream went....

So I entered into the ME with a buddy (who I havent seen in 6 years and who would never play poker) and another person who I dont remember. My starting table can be only described as setup in the backyard of a farm with yellow sunflowers all over the place. I was doing very well for myself (i dont remember any specific hands) but by the first break I was around the average chip stack. Then it happened (dun dun dun) WSOP security came and got me because they said I had carried a handgun into the tourney and someone had reported me as a possible "terrorist". At this point, my dream self remembers I brought a gun with me but I checked with (gun security?) before I entered the WSOP area. After a long drawn out sequence where I had to prove my innocence, I am tasked with finding wherever they moved my chips to. I fonally found it at Seat 7 of some table that I guess was actually inside the casino. The bad news is that I was nearly blinded completely out. Another thing I noticed at this point were the chips, they were very strange. Some looked normal chips but had odd amounts written on them like "4" and "24", and some of the chips weren't circular at all, they were best dicribed as "string-shaped" or fish-hooky. I finally got so low that I had to push all-in (dont remember my hand) and then I woke up...

Id love to see some dream analysts analyze that shiz!

So they you usually dream about the last thing you were doing, and the last thing I was doing was leaking money over FT and PS like a broken dam. Also managed to go out 3rd in the skillz (horse of all games too...) I think im just in a bad state of mind right now, I cant play the strong game im accustomed too because FT has put some sick beats on me, so when I play PS I just expect those beats and I play crappy. Since the BBT is over, I may take a break (probably not, since I have very little else to do). I would rail Waffles anyday, he is hilarious! If berating people for horrible play won oscars, hed be a repeat winner for sure.

Tombstone: One of the greatest movies ever?

Donked out of the Hoy last night, ran real good for the first 30-40 minutes and puked the rest of the way.

Surflexus had been bugging my BB for a number of orbits, 2 orbits previous to my exit he showed 10-10, then nothing. So I figured this time I'd take a stand when I got As-2s. I pushed, he took a but then called. He has 9-9.

The board went like this: 6-7-8-9-A Standard! Wheres that A-10 I like to push with so much?

the past 2 nights have just been horrible for me poker-wise.

The reason for my loading post last night was because of this: I got my rakeback confrim for Alissa's account but it stated I need to have at least 25 bucks in there for 60 days or the rakeback thing is null and void. So I went to Stop N Shop (not all SNS are the same btw!) and i got that $100 silver Visa gift card. FT wouldnt accept it, BUT they did say to use some thing called "Intacard" basically its a pre-paid phone thing that uses Visa and that FT said would allow me to deposit money into them.

I get that accoutn setup, use the gift card to put money in but they charge me all sorts of fees so out of the $100 card I can only really put 50 in there. I get the 50 in there, go back to FT to deposit, almost immediately I get an email from Intacard saying my account was suspended due to illegal activities (wtf?) so I put in a complaint with them. In the meantime I needed to load some cash to play in the Hoy, back out I go to my local Big Y (after an unsuccessful stop at CVS)to grab 2 of the cards that I know do work.

So I get home with those 2 cards, attempt to load them into her account and they get declined by FT (WTF DUDE???) So in the end I loaded them into PokerBrian and transferred them over to her account... 2 hours later... SO to save everyone time and money, please make sure the Visa cards say All-Access. The End.

I caught Tombstone over the weekend again, I love that movie. Just a great movie, excpet now everyone uses the "Huckleberry" line, even saw some dude at the stud tables named "IlBURHKBRY"

Im debating taking a break from online poker for a week or so, I love playing but im just getting hammered by the dumbest crap, most likely ill get home and play some more tonight...

The correct and incorrect way to load your online poker account

Forgive me if you know this info already, this is pretty much for those who havent deposited in awhile or trying to for their first time.

This first picture is the first thing I bought. Its a VISA Gift card. But this was not a card I had regularly bought, I figure it might work the same as all the other ones. Well it didnt.

Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

This next picture is the type I have used in the past, I believe it use to be called VISA Signature. Now they are called "All-Access", notice it does say gift card so you would think they are the same...but they are not, these actually work.

Quick Emotional postings ftl

Yeah, it felt cathartic at the time, but now i feel like an ass. I dont see how I could have played the 4(not 3) outer any better, but the J-J I could have re-raised pre-flop and maybe he would have folded.

My FT account is caputs, the account I started for my GF so I can get rakeback has only $25 smackaroos in it, but rakeback says if at anytime my account falls below $25the rakeback is void? So i gotta put another fiddy in there.

Im doing pretty good at PS, I put 50 in, got it up to 140, and I sit at 128 currently. Got pretty far in a Stud 8 freeroll.

Friday night I got trounced from the rebuy tourney when my A-Qhh ran into Q-10o. 10 on the flop. I made my entry back +60 in the cash game, when I took advantage of an inebriated female player. No, not in that way, sickos! Unimpressed in the previous hand OBFV on a hand and she folded muttering she wanted to call. When I hit top 2 on the next hand I figured I could get her to make a stupid call. So when the pot was $8 I pushed all-in for 50+, and like I wanted she called with a flush draw. I ended up taking it down when she missed.

I got home and won my $75 token into the big game, I was so happy I felt like I was a child of destiny to win that seat (not to mention the nice first prize cash)but it was not to be. I think I was putting too much pressure on myself to win.

And TJ: I cant think of a nice, more humbler person to win the overall points, and while you may have gotten a "lucky" (his words) break of the cards, it takes some serious chops to do what you did holmes. Kudos again.

Would like to say my last BBT tourney was a good run but...

Losing with 2 pair on the flop to a 3 outer, then losing with J-J on a raised pre-flop to 7-6 when 7-7-5 flops...

Full Tilt is bullshit, i just put $50 bucks in you dirty whore of a site, dont you know Im not supposed to be coolered?

I tried to say goodbye to everyone at my table but i guess if you a railing a tourney with no money in your account it says FU put money in me... so a late GG to all those at my table.

Congrats to all the BBT winners and eventual TOC winners.
